The Dolmush is the staple mode of transport for locals and tourists alike. Cheap, regular and incredibly flexible, Dolmush run between Bodrum and every major town on the Bodrum peninsula taking in small villages and settlements on the way. Even the longest journey is relatively inexpensive - usually up to a max of 3.7 YTL one-way. In the summer months they run every 15 mins or so until very late so getting back to Bodrum form say Yalikavac or Turgutreis is no big deal.
One of the nice things about the Dolmush is the drivers. They actively look for passangers tooting as they pass individuals and groups along the roadside. Designed to take about 14 passangers sitting, don't be supprised to see a Dolmush with around 25 people stuffed in. It the driver can, he will stuff as many people in as want to travel. On our return from Gumusluk, the bus driver must squeezed in around 35 people - his suspension certainly complained even if none of the passengers ever did - its just the way things are done there! |
While there are bus stops - hailing a Dolmush as easy as holding up an arm when and whenever you see one. I guarantee he will stop!
Bodrum is the hub for all journeys - this is where you will start and end your journey. The Dolmush station is in the centre of town. Here you will find buses to every location - just ask the drivers - they will point you to the right Dolmush. The only exception to this is Milas-Bodrum airport. Don't expect to be able to get a Dolmush to or from the airport - the taxis have this neatly tied up.
