| {jumi [*4]} | Your first contact with Bodrum will be through Milas-Bodrum Airport, recently extended with a spacious new international terminalwhich was completed in 2000. The older terminal, now reserved for domestic flights, is 1km away and a 15-minute walk across a grassy field. Milas-Bodrum Airport (more commonly known as Bodrum Airport) is situated on a peninsula which juts out from the southwest coast of Turkey into the Aegean Sea. Once the home of Herodotus, Bodrum is known today as a beautiful and popular resort area. The terminals host about 2.5 million travellers per year, and are especially busy during the peak summer tourism months when charter flights arrive frequently from major cities in Europe. |
Airport parking at Milas-BodrumA small car park is situated adjacent to each terminal. When you leave the terminal, taxis are just on your left and tour operator buse are directly across the road. The car park is just beyound the tour bus area. Unless you have organised a pickup at the airport, or are part of a charter tour you will either need to have made arrangements for a hire car or have to use the taxi service. Taxis can take 4 people plus luggage but it is unlikely that a family of 4 with all their luggage will fit in a single taxi. Getting to and from Milas-BodrumThe airport is just off highway D330, a widened road which makes the trip by car to and from Bodrum (45 minutes) or Milas (20 minutes) a relatively easy one. There is no regular bus service from the airport. HAVAS coaches operate from the domestic terminal in conjunction with Turkish Airlines flights to and from Istanbul. The trip to the central bus station in Bodrum costs about €3. Airport taxis are plentiful, and charge fixed rates to many area destinations. A rate board posted at the terminals displays the fares to 44 cities and towns in the region. The fare into Bodrum town centre is €40; to Kusadasi (125kms distant, a 2-hour journey), €85. Other fares generally range from €0.70-€0.80 per kilometre. Amenities at Milas-Bodrum AirportThe international terminal has a limited number of shops, cafeÌs and bars. A phone shop is open 24 hours, convenient for purchasing telephone cards if one’s mobile phone doesn’t work straight away. The North Shield Pub is open from 9:00 until 23:00, and offers typical English Pub fare. |
